WHAT IS A PODCAST?

Anyone can get into podcasting. Using simple technology and some internet ingenuity, you can listen to recorded programs anytime, anyplace. Its called podcasting, as in iPod and broadcasting shmushed together.

Podcasting is an affordable and effective way to share audio programs across the world, and it is the perfect and free method to syndicate my weekly classes out into cyber-space, and into the iPods of college students, Hillel professionals, or just interested folks.
Since I started podcasting in September, these programs and classes have been downloaded over 7500 times! Holy Herrings!

What I have done is create different “podcast streams” that offer unique program content. In my case my content is gnerally classes, concerts, and interviews.

How to Podcast

“How To Podcasting in 3 Steps”If you’ve got a computer, an iPod or other portable media player, and are interested in getting free, unique content to listen to, podcasting is for you. Podcasting is a way of using your computer to automatically download audio shows to your iPod (or other player), so that you’ve always got something new to listen to. It’s an exciting alternative to radio, because you choose what shows you want to listen to, and when and where you want to hear them. Getting started with podcasting is easy. All you need is a computer with an Internet link and a portable media player. In fact, you can listen to podcasts right on your computer.

1. Download & Install iTunes for Mac or Windows.
2. Pull down menu “advanced” in iTunes, and select “Subscribe to Podcast”.
3. Enter in this one of the podcast URL’s listed above. For example: http://rabbiyonah.audioblog.com/rss/jtb2.xml

iTunes will automatically check the podcast, show you the available stories and posts, and you can choose which ones to download or not.

After this initial foray, you are ready for the big leagues. You can search the iTunes directory of podcasts for a gazillion different ones.
